A victim of rape, miss Nkechi Ezenwa, 20, from Ubomiri in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State, was on 5th July, 2020, delivered of a set of triplets at Ubomiri Health Centre, through normal delivery. Although, the delivery was premature.

Sensing that there were two more babies after she was delivered of the first one, Miss Ezenwa was rushed to Paviller Care Hospital where the rest two babies were delivered through a cesarean section; with the medical bill staggering at N422, 000.

Following the social media advocay of an Owerri based journalist cum humanitarian, Chidiebube Okeoma, due to the critical condition of the babies and their mother and their inability to offset the medical bills, good spirited individuals like Senator Uche Ekwunife, representing Anambra Central District, Her Excellency Barr. Mrs Chioma Uzodinma, among others, came to the rescue. The sum raised by these good Nigerians was able to take care of the medical bills, before moving the mother and her babies to Federal Medical Centre, (FMC) Owerri, for proper medical care.

The excess of the money raised for the triplets and their mother were transfered into a bank account later opened for Mrs Ezenwa. A good spirited Nigerian resident abroad anamiously erected a two bedroom bungalow for the rape victim and her babies. Ubomiri indigenes living in diaspora jointly built and stocked a provision shop for the triplet and their mother.

According to the frontline advocate, Chidiebube Okeoma, “Miss Ezenwa and her triplet were gifted N9 million in cash and other donations”.

During the handover ceremony organized at the family of the Ezenwas, the member representing Mbaitoli state Constituency at the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon Okey Onyekanma, announced scholarship for the triplets, up to the university level. Hon Okey made the pledge while commissioning the newly built two bedroom bungalow.

The handover ceremony of the two bedroom bungalow and other donations attracted a lot of dignitaries, women groups and community leaders from across Imo state and beyond.

Revelation has it that the grandmother of the triplets and mother of miss Ezenwa, Mrs Helen Ezenwa is a widow who struggled to make ends meet. According to a community leader, Mrs Helen Ezenwa had buried no fewer than six children including her husband whom she lost at a very early stage.

Recall that Miss Ezenwa was raped late last year by unidentified rapist, while she was hawking banana in Owerri. The rapist lured the innocent young lady to an uncompleted building and had canal knowledge of her, in the pretense of buying some banana. The incident resulted into pregnancy, of which the triplets came forth.
