Following the decline in the academic performance of students and the enormous challenges besetting the State owned University, the Education Commissioner, Prof. Bernard T. O. Ikegwuoha has assured the newly appointed Vice Chancellor of the Imo State University, Prof. Peter Uka of his unreserved commitment towards salvaging the institution.
The Education boss stated this during a courtesy visit by the new Vice Chancellor and the Management of the University to his office.
In a press release made available by the Ministry of Education’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. William C. Unadike, Prof. Ikegwuoha expressed joy that a seasoned and committed administrator has mounted the saddle of leadership of the University, and thanked the State Governor for his choice of Prof. Peter Uka.
He stressed the need for a dispassionate and conscientious execution of the recommendations of the Imo State University visitation panel to bring about justice and fairness to all.
The erudite professor regretted that sectionalization and politicisation of the academia, as well as irregularities in the process and procedure of admission of students have remained the bane of the University’s downturn in academics. He therefore charged the new Vice Chancellor to ensure that the norms and procedure of admission are strictly adhered to in order to restore the institution to its former glory.
Prof. Ikegwuoha further assured the visiting IMSU boss of the support of the Ministry of Education in securing the future of Imo Students through qualitative and functional Education.
In his speech, the Acting Vice Chancellor of Imo State University, Prof. Peter Achuwanike Uka said the visit was to acquaint with the Ministry of Education which is procedural, as the supervising Ministry of the State owned tertiary institution.
The new IMSU boss thanked the State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma for the implicit trust reposed on him by appointing him to manage the affairs of Imo State University
Prof Uka also gave assurance that he will make the needed positive Impact despite the dounting challenges facing the institution.
He appealed to the State Governor to revisit the issue of unpaid February 2020 salary of staff of the University as well as allow for exemption in certain revenue heads from the TSA to make the University function effectively.
The Imo State University VC also called for synergy between the Education Ministry and the University Management towards the realisation of an Imo State University that will be the envy of all.
Adding her voice, the Permanent Secretary. Ministry of Education, Dr. (Mrs) Beatrice Uwandu-Uzoma, thanked the Vice Chancellor and his Management team for the visit and assured them of the ministry’s collaboration.
